“Best Week of my Life” with Zach Hurt

January 26, 2015 Katie Marti

Each week at our lodge is special for each guest – but this year, the New Year’s week was an exceptionally special one for our Last Frontier family, as the Rosset clan filled the lodge to spend the week there together as a family.

It’s important to us that guests feel like our lodges are a home away from home. Over the holiday season, the vibe around the lodge is laid-back and relaxed, allowing for families to connect and share this special time together. This year, Zach Hurt came to the lodge with Sandra Rosset, daughter of Georg Rosset, a founder of Last Frontier Heliskiing. Their holiday plans to come to the lodge had been sabotaged by a bad case of pneumonia last year, so they were very excited to make it up here together this year.

The conditions were spectacular. A first time heli-skier, Zach was blown away by the mountain peaks upon mountain peaks, and with a bluebird sky the helicopters can get up high to show off the stunning panoramic views. Taking a helicopter to the top of a mountain is an experience in itself, and on top of that, to use a helicopter to ski is unlike anything you’ve ever done before – if one area is a little windblown, just load the helicopter – up and over to somewhere else you’ll find some trees and voila! a new stash of powder.

On the third day it started to snow, and so it was time to explore the the sub-alpine terrain. But according to Zach, it wasn’t just about the skiing: “hands down the best week of my life,” also included five-star dining, an incredibly knowledgeable guiding team, wonderful new friends from all over the world, lunches on top of mountains (it’s hard to beat soups and sandwiches flown out to you) and a fantastic lodge vibe. The lodge is a great place to come back to every afternoon, where you can mingle with everyone, hang out at the bar over drinks and appetizers, or tuck into the sauna and jacuzzi to ease your muscles after a long day.

But this was all the backdrop for the best week of his life, because this was the week that Zach proposed to Sandra. He had a plan to propose to her on the top of a mountain, and the guides were all ready to help him get her alone. But, like any classic proposal story, Zach suggested taking a photo on top of a windy mountain and Sandra refused, citing – funnily enough – “cold feet.” Zach had to change his plan, and so down by the river, he dropped to one knee in the snow and asked the question.

So, congratulations to Zach and Sandra! The Last Frontier Heliskiing family is so happy for you!
