Pre-Season Operations Update – September 2004

September 05, 2024 Last Frontier Heliskiing

In early September our operations crew spent a week at Bell 2 Lodge and in our ski area to prepare for our 2025 heliski season. Here is a quick rundown of what’s new along with some photos from the awe inspiring mountain scenery of Northern British Columbia.

The first order of business involved taking stock of our communications gear and make sure everything is in good working order. This equipment lives in the remote Skeena and Coast Mountain ranges and it has to withstand harsh winter conditions. We’ve made some meaningful upgrades this year to boost range and increase the longevity of our repeaters. The solar arrays and battery modules have been upgraded as well and will hopefully reduce maintenance intervals.

A remote camera has been installed and we plan on adding two additional units during our annual guides training in December. These cameras help us reduce reconnaissance flights and give us valuable information about weather conditions in the mountains.

A trip was also made to our remote fueling sites. These locations are situated in heavy snowfall zones and thus scaffolding structures have been erected to ease access during the wintertime when the tanks are buried deep beneath the snow.

As Fall approaches we get a little giddy with the excitement of the first snowfalls, so stay tuned for more pre-season updates.

Our 29th heliski season officially kicks off on December 29th and we still have some great opportunities left for those who haven’t made travel plans yet. Get in touch [here] for availability.
