Northern British Columbia heli skiing and heliboarding is not for the faint of heart. Our mountains are challenging and the conditions can change quickly – but that’s all part of the fun right? At Last Frontier we understand that you are joining us for an isolated wilderness heli skiing adventure and while we appreciate that go-getter attitude, we also commit to doing everything in our power to keep you safe.

Omar Ahmad is Last Frontier Heli sking’s Medical Director and he leads a team of world-class guides and medical experts, all working to ensure the safety of our guests. Our entire team meets twice a day to discuss the mountain terrain and share our observations regarding the stability of the snow conditions. By closely monitoring the weather conditions, we are as prepared as possible for sudden changes and we know what regions of the single largest heli skiing area in the world are the safest to be on at any given time.

Our commitment to heli skiing safety goes beyond our own ski area – it of critical importance across our entire industry. That is why we are in regular contact with heli skiing guides and safety personnel across the industry, sharing expertise with them and learning from their best practices and experiences. While us heli skiiers are definitely a competitive crew, there is no room for pettiness when it comes to safety. We believe that guest safety demands intense, industry-wide collaboration so that its a positive experience for all heli skiers, no matter their location.

Last Frontier has been leading the charge on safety since our inception in 1996. Over time we have learned and put in pace protocols and systems to eliminate as much of the risk involved in heli skiing as possible. Through regularly scheduled training sessions we keep our entire team on their toes and we are overprepared for every possible scenario when you are out on the slopes with us.

Your guides and pilots are there to take you into the mountains and show you the time of your life, but more importantly, they are there to bring you home safely. They are the backbone of what we do. They are not there to scare you; they are not there to prove how steep they can ski. Most have families and like you have every interest in coming home at the end of the day. They too love to ski, so when the conditions and the group’s ability allow, they will open the throttle and turn up the volume. When it doesn’t, they won’t – and you should thank them for it.
