What Makes A Great Heli Ski Run?
We all know the kind of heli ski runs we’re talking about, and if you don’t then you defiantly haven’t been skiing enough! It’s those runs that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. The ones that stand out from all the hundreds of others; the ones we describe when talking about skiing to a non-skiing friend.
Many contributing factors can be said to play a part in the making of a great heli ski run. Here are our insiders’ top 5 elements that will help make not only the perfect run, but also maybe even the perfect heli ski day.
1. Great Snow
Top of our list, and top priority with the majority of our guests is great snow. Thankfully, located where we are, with access to both the Coastal Mountain’s and Interior British Columbia, we can almost guarantee that you’ll be enjoying that famously dry, dry powder. Whatever time of year you come to heli ski at Last Frontier, there is always the chance of great snow, and when you’ve experienced the awesome feeling of being surrounded by the lightest, fluffiest of the stuff, then you’ll never want to go anywhere else.
2. Length of Run
A run that includes everything should leave you gasping “no more!” It should be so complete it resonates in your mind for years to come. Thankfully, here at Last Frontier, we have access to the widest possible terrain tenure ever. So the chances are you’ll be able to ski right from the top of a glacier, making some big, epic powder turns in the alpine, before reaching the open sparse trees at the beginning of the treeline. From here the snow only gets better; and by this we mean deeper! Gradually sense the trees getting tighter and this snow deepening as your legs begin to burn nearing the valley floor. All this terrain in one run will surely help make these some of the best and most memorable runs of your life.
3. Awe-Inspiring Scenery
Where else would you get the chance to repeatedly be left on the top of some magnificent peak, stunned by the natural beauty surrounding you after the helicopter glides effortlessly away? Without even making a single turn, you know this will be a moment to remember for years to come as you happily take in the blanket of fresh snow that awaits you and your friends.
4. Skiing Companions
Which leads us onto our fourth point. Wherever you ski, and in whatever conditions, the best times, and so therefore the best runs, are ultimately the ones we share with a great group. Having good friends and inspiring guides steps up the level of enjoyment from what is already an epic adventure.
5. The ‘Great Runs’
Every mountain has them; they are the runs you hear about before even setting foot in the heli, or sitting on a lift. These are the runs you know are epic, whatever the conditions. Maybe they’ve been skied by the greats before you or you’ve seen famous photos of them – whatever it is, it’s sure to give you the goose bumps. Combine one of these legendary runs with a few, if not all of the factors above and you’ll be having the time of your life.
