It can be difficult to choose a heliski operator. Here in BC, we’ve got some of the best operations to choose from and it can be hard to sort out who’s who by looking at company websites. At Last Frontier Heliskiing, we stand by what we do. And there’s no better way to see that than going to the folks who really know what it’s like to come heliskiing with us for a week: our guests.

The largest online venue for that is Trip Advisor. I’ve used Trip Advisor for everything from getting a review for a hotel to helping plan a trip to a specific area or destination. Heliskiing is no different. When you book a heliski trip, be it with us or any of the other operations out there, it’s a big commitment. Let’s face it, heliskiing isn’t cheap. Booking a heliski trip is all about front end loading; you want to stack the cards in your favour as much as you can before you go so that all you have to worry about when you get there is how deep the snow is going to be.

With Trip Advisor, though, it’s important to read a little critically. Where are the reviewers from? When did they go? Had they been heliskiing before? There are other venues for reviews as well. Social media outlets, including facebook, have definitely helped us to tweak little things here and there over the years to improve our guests experience. Various tour operators publish reviews as well and with these, keep in mind that they are often selling more than one product in the same category.

And then there are the heliskiing reviews on our site. These testimonials are from the various folks who have come to visit over the years. Pro athletes, guides, industry professionals and our guests, many of whom have heliskied all over the world with just about every other big operator out there and have a better handle on what should go into a heliski trip than we do. So take some time and have a look. I like reading reviews. I often find that it takes a while to get into them, but after a few, I start to separate the fodder and read critically, seeing behind the words to how people really feel.

Be safe, ski hard.
